Airport Security Scanner

The Machine that goes Beep!

Built into the side of the walk-through scanner is a bunch of electric “coils”, which create very short magnetic pulses.

These magnetic pulses cause any metal that might be in your pockets to create a magnetic “echo”, which is detected by those coils in the side of the machine.

If metal is detected on you the scanner makes a loud and very annoying BEEP!

If this happens you will have to check your pockets for metal (maybe you forgot you had some coins left over from your pocket money… lucky you!), and give it to the scanner-operator. He will give it back to you later.

Pat and Ray operate the security checkpoint at our airport. They find the job a little tedious, so enjoy playing practical jokes on our passengers. This has got them in trouble on a number of occasions but, being very good at their jobs, they have gotten away with it. We have tried to counsel them to behave in a more grim, boring way, with little effect.
